This is me (left) with Lara Feigel, one of the judges for the Tony Lothian Prize. Last night was the prize announcement dinner of the Biographer’s Club held at the National Liberal Club in London and my memoir won the Tony Lothian Prize for an unpublished biography. The competition was stiff: the other biographies-in-waiting on the shortlist are fascinating, and I barely dared hope that my strange and much-loved (by me) book would be the one chosen. So when my name was announced I’m afraid I didn’t do much except blub at the podium, but no one seemed to mind. Thank you to the judges who were so enthusiastic about the book, and completely ‘got’ what I am trying to achieve. And good luck to my fellow shortlistees … I hope we will meet again.
