Winner of the MsLexia Novel Prize & coming soon from riverrun

I’m cock-a-hoop to be able to announce that my novel, Larchfield, has won the MsLexia Novel Competition. The novel is inspired by W.H. Auden’s little known but formative years in Helensburgh, Scotland, and intertwines the story of the brilliant young man  newly arrived in the seaside town with that of Dora Fielding, a fictional modern-day poet also beginning a new life there. Driven by desperate circumstances, the two poets find each other across time and create a reality of their own that saves them both. Watch this space for more news about Larchfield which will be coming shortly… but in the meantime, here is what the judges had to say:

DI SPEIRS, BBC: “wonderful characters and set pieces — I admired the sense of otherness of both protagonists.”

MARINA LEWYCKA, AUTHOR OF A HISTORY OF TRACTORS IN UKRAINIAN: “the sense of danger hanging over the characters kept me reading until past midnight.”

JULIET MUSHENS, LITERARY AGENT: “a deft and moving portrayal of isolation.”
